SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS

Workshop on Beyond CRUD: Real-World MongoDB for Developers

The Department of MCA, in association with CSI, successfully organised a workshop titled “Beyond Crud: Real-World MongoDB for Developers” on 09.05.2026. The resource person for the workshop was Mr Pavan Kumar V J, Associate SDE at Zedwerk. The workshop aimed to provide participants with practical knowledge of MongoDB beyond basic Crud operations, with a strong emphasis on real-world database applications.

The session began with an introduction to MongoDB and NoSQL concepts, highlighting the differences between relational and document-oriented databases. Participants were introduced to collections, documents, and the advantages of flexible schema design. Basic CRUD operations such as insert, find, update, and delete were demonstrated through practical examples, enabling participants to understand the fundamentals of database interaction.

The workshop further focused on schema design and data modelling, including embedding and referencing techniques for building scalable database structures. The MongoDB Aggregation Framework was also discussed in detail, allowing participants to perform advanced data analysis using stages such as $match, $group, and $sort. In addition, the importance of indexing and query optimisation in improving database performance was explained with suitable examples.

Real-world application scenarios, including inventory systems and user management, were presented to demonstrate MongoDB integration in practical environments. Participants actively engaged in hands-on activities involving CRUD operations, schema design, indexing, and aggregation using real datasets. The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where technical queries were addressed, and valuable insights into career opportunities in NoSQL technologies were shared.
