Alumni Talk 2025-2026

Alumni Talk on From Rules to Intelligence: Evolving Automation Systems with AI

The Department of MCA organised an Alumni Talk on 17 April 2024 titled “From Rules to Intelligence: Evolving Automation Systems with AI”. The session focused on introducing students to the evolution from traditional rule-based systems to intelligent AI-driven automation.

The resource person, Mr Rohaan S P, is an R&D Software Developer in AI and ML at Telaverge Communications (Zebra), Bengaluru. He shared his four years of industry experience in Generative AI, LLM integration, prompt engineering, NLP-based automation, and real-time machine learning applications.

The talk began with an explanation of traditional rule-based systems and their dependence on predefined logic and deterministic outcomes. Their limitations, including poor adaptability, scalability issues, and difficulty in handling dynamic environments, were clearly highlighted.

The session then introduced key Artificial Intelligence concepts such as Machine Learning and Deep Learning used in modern automation systems. A comparison between rule-based and AI-based systems helped students understand the transition from static rules to self-learning models.

Real-world applications such as chatbots, recommendation systems, fraud detection, and predictive maintenance were discussed. The speaker also addressed challenges such as data dependency, bias, fairness, and explainability in AI implementation.

An interactive question-and-answer session allowed students to clarify doubts, explore real-world challenges, and understand industry expectations. Overall, the session provided valuable insights into the future of automation and the skills required for AI-driven careers.
