Objective:

April 27th , 2022, 09:30 a.m through Google meet we had an Expert Talk session on

“Splunk Tool for Big Data Analytics” which was conducted by Mrs. Anitha Cheruvu. This program was hosted by the Department of MCA, NHCE. It was held for students of MCA – 1st, 4th and 6th semester students to get insights on the usage of Splunk tool, Industrial implementation of the tool to structure the data in log files.

The session began with the speaker introducing us to the concept of Splunk tool, what splunk tool is used for, how to use the tool, where to use the tool and so on. Splunk tool is used to structure the unstructured data that is found in log files. The tool formats the data into a more human readable form. She took us along with the topic with the help of a well prepared pdf file. Various theoretical concepts like Splunk components, Clustering, Roles, Buckets, Search mode and Search filters were explained. Practical examples were also shown by her while she shared her Desktop screen with us. Students understood the topics very well because of the real time implementation of the theory.

During the practical session of Splunk tool, she explained to us various filters that can be used to extract the optimal solution. Filters like time, keywords and many advanced search tricks were told to us during that hour. Showed us various search modes available and how they differed from each other. It was an interactive session were students were let to ask questions and their doubts cleared.

Conclusion:

The session was very effective and helped in understanding the importance of Splunk tool in the world of Big Data. Students understood how an Industry would want structured data over unstructured data. Overall, the session was an eye opener and let students discover a new tool that can be used practically.
