Guest lecture on "Building Dynamic Web Applications with Servlet and JSP

The Department of MCA organized a guest lecture on 28th June 2025 titled “Building Dynamic Web Applications with Servlet and JSP” to provide students with practical exposure to Java-based web development. Ms. Bhoomika S, a Solution Engineer at TestSigma, Bangalore, led the session, offering an engaging overview of how Servlets and JSP work together to build responsive and interactive web applications. She explained core concepts such as the Servlet lifecycle, client-server interactions, and the integration of Java code into HTML using JSP directives, scriptlets, and expressions.

The lecture further explored the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture and emphasized its relevance in organizing real-time web projects. A major highlight of the session was a live demonstration of a web application, where the speaker illustrated how to fetch and display data from a MySQL database using JDBC with both Servlets and JSP. This hands-on demo gave students valuable insights into dynamic content generation and user interaction on the web.

Participants also presented their ongoing mini-projects, discussing architecture, objectives, and implementation strategies. They received insightful feedback from the speaker, which helped them refine their approaches. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing students to clarify their doubts around Java technologies, database connectivity, and project development. With over 50 participants actively engaging, the session effectively bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, enriching the students’ practical understanding and skill sets.
