Expert talk on Software Engineering in the AI Era: Recommender Systems and User Behavior Analysis

The Department of MCA organised an expert talk on “Software Engineering in the AI Era: Recommender Systems and User Behaviour Analysis” on 28th March 2026. The session was delivered by Mr Pavan Kumar V J, Associate SDE at Zetwerk, Bangalore. He began by explaining how AI is transforming traditional software engineering practices and enabling the development of intelligent, adaptive systems. The talk highlighted the growing importance of data-driven approaches in software design and the integration of machine learning models into modern applications.

The speaker provided an overview of recommender systems and discussed collaborative filtering, content-based filtering, and hybrid techniques. He emphasised how user behaviour analysis—through clicks, browsing patterns, and preferences—helps to build personalised and engaging digital experiences. Real-world examples from e-commerce, streaming platforms, and social media illustrated the practical application of these technologies. Participants gained insights into how user data is collected, processed, and utilised to improve system accuracy and relevance.

The speaker also addressed challenges related to scalability, model performance, and ethical considerations such as privacy and bias. An interactive Q&A session allowed students to clarify implementation doubts and discuss best practices for AI-driven software systems. Case studies and demonstrations further enhanced participants’ understanding of recommender system workflows. Attendees appreciated the clear explanation of complex concepts and the relevance of the session to current industry trends.

The talk helped participants understand the growing role of AI in software development and the value of behavioural analytics. The session concluded with positive feedback, marking it as an insightful and impactful learning experience for all participants.
