Brief profile of the expert:

Associate Professor William Yeoh, Deakin University

Dr William Yeoh is an Associate Professor at Deakin University’s Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics. He is also the division leader for business-centric cyber security at Deakin’s Cyber Security Research & Innovation Centre (CSRI), and the deputy director for business and technology research theme at Deakin Business School. His current research interests include business analytics, cybersecurity, crowdsourcing, AI, blockchain, etc. His research has been supported by various grant bodies (eg. Cyber CRC, IBM), and has appeared in top-tier journals (e.g. Decision Support Systems, Information & Management) and top conferences (ICIS). He is the Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of International Journal of Business Intelligence Research.

He has received several awards for teaching, research and service activities, including the ICT Educator of the Year Gold Award (awarded by the Australian Computer Society ACS), internationally-competitive IBM Faculty Awards, Deakin’s Vice-Chancellor Award for Value Innovation (in recognition of his leadership for Deakin’s IBM Centre of Excellence in Business Analytics), and Deakin Faculty Excellence in Research Award.  In 2020, he was named amongst the Top 25 Analytics Leaders in Australia (by the Institute of Analytics Professionals of Australia).

 

Objective:

Business Intelligence is an important field of study in Information Technology Industry. Student pursuing their Masters in Computer Applications need to know the subject. The subject is offered as an elective. Some students do not opt for this elective due to lack of appreciation of its applicability. The objective of the expert talk is introducing the students to the basic, area of applications and tools related to the subject.

Students asked queries related to application of Business Intelligence. It broke the monotony of classroom teaching and ignited interest for future learning. Specific queries to career related questions are answered. Opportunities for collaborations and research may be explored using the knowledge gained through the expert talk.
