Alumni Talk 2024-2025

Alumni Talk on The Fundamentals of Computer Vision

The MCA Department organized an Alumni talk on 21st, June 2025 titled “The Fundamentals of Computer Vision”, presented by Mr. Rishab Kumar, Senior Computer Vision Engineer at Autonomo Technologies, Bangalore. The session aimed to introduce students to key concepts, algorithms, and real-world applications in computer vision.
Mr. Kumar explained how machines interpret visual data and covered topics like image representation, color models, and image processing techniques such as filtering and edge detection. He also introduced feature extraction methods like SIFT, SURF, and ORB, along with object detection techniques including Haar cascades, HOG, YOLO, and CNNs.

The role of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and transfer learning in deep learning applications was made accessible to the audience. Real-world applications of computer vision in fields like medical imaging, surveillance, AR/VR, and robotics were discussed. The speaker shared resources and tools including OpenCV, TensorFlow, and PyTorch for hands-on development. In the Q&A session, students inquired about careers and project opportunities, receiving practical advice on using open-source tools.

The session sparked student interest in computer vision research and projects. Faculty and students alike appreciated the depth and clarity of the talk, which successfully simplified complex topics and inspired further learning.
